The Year is Complete!

Please feel free to look back through the 365 days of 2010 sunrises, but "a year of getting up to meet the day" is officially completed. There will be no more new posts.

Thank you so much for visiting.
A one year blog project in which I share a process of transitions: emptying of the nest, reacquainting with my rusty intellect, plowing onward with my first full length book, entering the second half of my first century, and generally reflecting on life.

perfect way to launch a trip

sunrise:  7:08        blog time remaining:  13 days

I had time for a few pre-dawn photos before departure today. The dogs were in their usual state of high anxiety as they observed us packing. I hate to disappoint them and leave them behind. The nice thing for them is that they are staying home with a house and dog sitter, so no kennel time.

As is our wont, we were up pretty late doing last minute organizing, and left a bit later than planned in the morning. I’m afraid our whole family is rather pathologically late. N. was up promptly this morning, however, because, she informed us, she never even went to sleep. “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” kept her up reading all night.

We hit the highway under a glorious dawn glow. Before leaving town, we stopped at McK’s Variety to pick up some breakfast sandwiches. There is always a crowd of pickup trucks at McK’s. It is one of those classic old time gathering places for the locals. A bunch of guys hang out in there, have coffee, shoot the breeze about whatever with Mick. In between he fixes people breakfast at the grill. Sometimes if it gets busy, one of his buddies stands at the register. The best breakfast sandwiches around these parts.

Perfect way to launch a trip.
