The Year is Complete!

Please feel free to look back through the 365 days of 2010 sunrises, but "a year of getting up to meet the day" is officially completed. There will be no more new posts.

PLEASE JOIN ME FOR MORE SUNRISE POSTS AT THE SUNRISE BLOGGER, WHERE YOU WILL FIND SUNRISE PHOTOS AND REFLECTIONS FROM ME AND FROM CONTRIBUTORS AROUND THE GLOBE.

Thank you so much for visiting.
A one year blog project in which I share a process of transitions: emptying of the nest, reacquainting with my rusty intellect, plowing onward with my first full length book, entering the second half of my first century, and generally reflecting on life.

sunsets, vomit, cute animals, fistfights

sunrise:  6:24

Sunsets, vomit, cute animals, fistfights.

It may look like a completely random group, but they all have something in common.

Can you guess?  It has to do with physiology...

ANSWER:  These are all things that are known to make people sweat.  Just looking at photographic images of them can provoke the response, in some more profoundly than in others.  Weird.

In the Political Science Physiology lab of University of Nebraska, they have done a study (don't you love the things that show up in a study?) that examined the political/voting behaviors of people who sweat more and less.   They discovered that conservatives have a more dramatic sweat response than liberals to everything, and in general, people who sweat more (and blink more in response to loud stimuli) are more politically active and more inclined to vote.

It is in their nature, a genetic predisposition then - the speculation goes - that conservatives (generally republicans, nowadays) are more fearful and cautious, and vote accordingly.

The study itself provides an amusing talking point, but the thing that most interests me is the four things that supposedly cause a sweat response.  Sunsets and cute animals?  They have nothing to do with fear, as far as I know.  Maybe the study's point is that Republicans and conservatives FEEL more?  get more worked up?  Hard to justify that given the radical demonstrations that we see on the left.

In any case, it is food for thought on another rainy day.  From now on, when you see someone mopping their brow and blinking hard as the sun goes down, you'll know how they voted on November 2nd.

I suppose I have been providing my viewers with sweat provoking photos all year, and never knew it.  (I will assume that sunrise has the same stimulatory properties as a sunset?  but maybe that's too big a leap...)  Sorry if I've inconvenienced anyone.

Since I have no photos of a visible sunrise to make you sweat this morning,  I have provided you with a little photo essay of a cute animal at her acrobatic best with a bright yellow frisbee.

There is the chase, the timing, the leaps, the catch, the rest, and the cool down.

Kate is sweating hard here.  Maybe she just saw some vomit.
