The Year is Complete!

Please feel free to look back through the 365 days of 2010 sunrises, but "a year of getting up to meet the day" is officially completed. There will be no more new posts.

PLEASE JOIN ME FOR MORE SUNRISE POSTS AT THE SUNRISE BLOGGER, WHERE YOU WILL FIND SUNRISE PHOTOS AND REFLECTIONS FROM ME AND FROM CONTRIBUTORS AROUND THE GLOBE.

Thank you so much for visiting.
A one year blog project in which I share a process of transitions: emptying of the nest, reacquainting with my rusty intellect, plowing onward with my first full length book, entering the second half of my first century, and generally reflecting on life.

micro beauty

sunrise:  4:59

One of the small challenges of my daily walks at dawn is to find beauty in the every day.  I confess that on some mornings it is harder than others.

Those days where there is not a hint of color in the sky other than a vast, monochromatic gray are hardest for me, especially when there is a weight in the atmosphere of impending weather.

However, the air is soft and caressing, a light breeze dancing around the body in a tantalizing way.  This was one of only two days this year that I have gone out in the morning without a jacket.  Being somewhat intolerant of heat, cool summer mornings are one of the things I love about Maine.  Still, a sultry morning now and again is a nice novelty.

The birds and frogs are happily singing away, as usual.

And when the macro-view of the world is gloomy, I go for the micro-view.  Beauty is out there.  Sometimes you have to stand still and look more closely.
